How can a digital replica of Earth help us understand our planet’s past, present and future? A group of European scientists has presented their ideas about the practical implementation and potential areas of a Digital Twin Earth. This is part of the fourth edition Ph-week.

In the next decades, human activity and population growth will increase the pressures on vital resources like fresh water and food. This will also intensify stress on land and sea ecosystems and increase pollution.

These threats, comprising rising sea levels, increasing ocean acidification and more intense extreme events like floods and heatwaves, will need to be closely monitored, especially for our most vulnerable populations.
