ENGIE’s Novo estado (PNE), a project of ENGIE in the states Para and Tocantins, has been authorized by the National System Operator to commence commercial operations at the Serra Pelada Substation and its reactors. This is the first milestone in its operation.

“The Novo Estado Project has a huge impact on the availability of energy in other parts of the country, and the capture of that energy. Eduardo Sattamini, Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE Brasil Energia (EGIE3), stated that the Serra Pelada Substation will serve as a hub for Xingu Substation. These substations are connected to major hydroelectric plants. This will optimize and increase security for the National Interconnected System.

Sattamini concluded, “In addition to promoting Brazil’s development in a balanced manner and justly, our transmission line project underscores the operational strategy of ENGIE in terms of energy infrastructure investment platforms,”

The conclusion to the implementation of Novo Estado’s assets in their entirety – 3,634 double circuit transmission towers,1,800 kms of transmission lines and a new substation together with the expansion of a further three existing substations, is scheduled for no later than the end of the second quarter 2022, a timeframe which anticipates the one in relation to the calendar agreed with the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
