ASIA NEWS:

Malang, East Java, Indonesia, Nov 25, 2021 – (ACN Newswire) – Universitas Brawijaya (UB/Unibraw) is developing a digital halal certification system for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, as part of the Reverse Linkage Project. Dr. Hagus Tarno is the head of the project team. The system will archive documents right through the certification stage. MSMEs will be able to view the results of each stage of the evaluation by archiving documents digitally.
“MSMEs who will apply for halal certification at Brawijaya University’s will be directed to a system to help them determine which documents they need to prepare and fill out. During a webinar on Sunday, Dr Tarno explained that there will be another system to assist business owners in knowing the current stage of the certification process. This will allow them to know whether documents have been returned or if they are going to certification.

A request was made by the Department of Cooperatives and SMEs of Malang Regency for assistance 100 owners of businesses who will soon apply to Brawijaya University for halal certification. “There was an offer. Tarno stated that they will apply the offer to MSMEs to which we will provide assistance.

The project for developing a halal digital system received US$2. 06 million funding for two years (2021-23) from Serunai Malaysia and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), he said. During the webinar, Serunai Malaysia, IsDB, and the University signed a letter indicating intent (LOI).

The LOI will be followed up with a tri-partite agreement before the project is carried out, Tarno said. He said that the system can be used in other universities if it is in use at Brawijaya U.

The university’s vice rector for planning and cooperation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Moch. Sasmito Dati, M.S. said that Brawijaya would continue to support the development of the halal certificate project. This can be applied to food and beverage products as well as to MSMEs in tourism and pharmacy.

University Brawijaya is known as a pioneer in incubating critical aspects of the halal value chain since 1987, he added. Dr. Ir. was the first to invent the concept of halal certificate. Tri Susanto is a Lecturer in Food Technology at the Department of Agricultural Technology of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Since then, the scientific products developed at the university have become formal archetypes for the Muslim community in Indonesia, creating awareness on the importance of the halal concept and promoting the halal ecosystem, said Prof Sasmito..

Considering Brawijaya’s long history in developing the halal concept and ecosystem, it is perfect to become a beneficiary of the Reverse Linkage Project, for utilizing digital technology to help improve the role of MSMEs in the Indonesian economy, the Prof added.
