ESA’s Euclid mission seeks to explore dark matter, dark energies and the expanding Universe.

Euclid reached a new milestone with the successful testing of its telescope and instruments, which demonstrated that it is capable of operating in extreme space conditions.

At Centre Spatial de Liege in Belgium, the payload (containing the telescope, scientific instruments, and other equipment) was packed in an enclosed thermal tent. It was then loaded into a large vacuum tank, where it underwent extensive testing.

Euclid experienced simulated space conditions in vacuum with the payload module cooled to -150oC, the same temperature it will operate in once in space.

After 60 intensive testing, 24 hour per day, 7-days per week, the vacuum chamber opened and Euclid was removed from the thermal tent.
