AFRICA NEWS:

Dr Lazarus Chakwera, President of the Fertilizer Price in the Interest of Local Farmers has called for an end of the tug-of-war over fertiliser prices.

Dr Chakwera spoke in Liwonde during the official opening ceremony of the Liwonde Fertilizer Terminal.

President Chakwera stated that the Malawi 2063 Government aspires to create all-inclusive wealth and said that this can only be achieved if fertiliser distributors are able to work with farmers in a win-win scenario.

He urged the Malawi Fertilizer company to investigate the possibility of local raw materials in order for the fertiliser price to be reasonable.

President Chakwera was quick to praise the Malawi Fertilizer Company for investing in the new terminal. He said that it was in tandem the Government’s Affordable Imput Programme (AIP), which will ensure fertiliser is easily available in large quantities.

He stated that the private sector is essential in achieving the Malawi 2063 agenda.

Earlier, Minister of Agriculture, Lobin Lowe, disclosed that the Government will tomorrow, 12 October, release a list of suppliers for this year’s AIP.

Lowe issued a clear warning to those who refuse to abide by the Government’s terms.
